Scouts join local community in Godalming to hear proclamation of the new king

Volunteers and young people from Godalming Scouts were part of a huge crowd which gathered on Sunday 11th September to hear the local proclamation of the new king.

We were filled with pride to see so many young people and volunteers coming together to witness this historic event. Members of Scouts wore their uniforms to their event to represent Scouts and joined their families and other community organisations at the Pepperpot.

The proclamation was read by Mayor of Godalming Cllr. Shirley Faraday.

According to royal.uk, "Accession describes the event of a new Sovereign taking the throne upon the death of the previous King or Queen. A new Sovereign succeeds to the throne as soon as his or her predecessor dies and is proclaimed as soon as possible at an Accession Council in St James's Palace".

Following the recent death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, Scouts joined the nation in mourning the loss of the monarch who was also the patron of UK Scouts. Volunteers can access guidance from The Scouts here, and programme resources for reflecting here.
